Title:

Revised Attitudes Toward Amish (RATA) scale and data

Content:

(1) The Revised Attitudes Toward Amish (RATA) instrument by Cory Anderson and Lee Decker, adapted and revised from the original ATA instrument by William McGuigan. (2) 2018 data from the Anderson and Decker study field testing the RATA instrument.

Publications:

Anderson, Cory, and Lee Decker. 2020. "Evaluation and Revision of an Instrument Measuring Attitudes toward the Amish.Journal of Applied Social Science 14(2):195-211.

Notes:

The following items on the scale should be reverse-coded: 2, 4, 5, 7, 8, 11, 12, and 16. While answers provide a sense of overall positive or negative attitude, factor analysis revealed that responses tend to cluster into groupings and that respondents are liable to have positive attitudes in some groups and negative attitudes in others. Data provide scores from two samples in two waves: ATA test of northeastern Missouri residents and university students, and RATA test of northeastern Missouri residents and university students. See article for details.

Benjamin McKune’s Holmes County, OH, Population Database

Content:

Individually linked roster of Holmes County, OH, Amish, based on multiple editions of directories.

Notes:

McKune was a doctoral student in Penn State’s sociology program. His life was shortened quite suddenly by a health condition. The database links individuals across multiple editions of directories. However, many errors remain. See Colyer, et al. (2017) for details.
